A pair of $15.00 sunglasses,
purchased at a sidewalk shop,
south of San Antonio,
far away from the River Walk.

An older couple sitting on the chairs,
drinking, laughing staring at the sun,
they look at each other
before all this was done.

From the sea of wicker baskets, handbags,
bubble gum and bottled sand,
the life of commerce resounds in my ear,
the sound, so grand.

Two hands held, four feet perched
and the eyes see all the colors of the coast,
nothing hurts you more,
than the one you love the most.

When the sun set's slowly on the beach,
the residents of Galveston
stay indoors, where the visitors
gawk at the horizon in their retreat.

They fear when Autumn calls,
when the cold settles into your bed
to tell you that the pain,
the pain is all in your head.
