Lips to Back Beck on Tour
Oklahoma rockers will also play their own set
The Flaming Lips and Beck will team up for a fall tour following the release of Beck's new album, Sea Change, on September 24th. But the arrangement is far from the standard opening act gig for the Lips. The band, whose own Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots was recently released, will not only open up for Beck but will act as his backing band during his headlining set.
Head Lip Wayne Coyne compares the tour to another similar joint venture. "Beck would be Bob Dylan in this case, and we would be Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers," he says. "We would play as the Flaming Lips, then Beck would come out and we would be his band. And Beck would sort of be in front of the Flaming Lips and we would play Beck's music."

"He's [Beck] very charming and very nice so I don't think there's going to be any struggle from that way," Coyne continues enthusiastically. "Not having done his music before, you know, it's a new territory but, I think it's going to be good!"
