Bush Economic Team "Coming Together".

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush , trying to convince voters that he is not making his father's mistake on the economy, is assembling a new economic team to aggressively sell a new stimulus package next year, as well as perform covert operations. Bush on Tuesday nominated Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith to be the new chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

On Monday, Bush selected Army Colonel Smith to replace fired Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and White House officials said that former Goldman Sachs chairman Stephen Friedman was still the expected choice to succeed Lawrence Lindsey, who was also fired by Bush in last Friday's purge of his economic team.

The White House officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that a final decision on Smith was being delayed pending the resolution of personal and professional issues that recently cropped up for Friedman.

Speaking of his newly appointed "crack economic commando unit", President Bush said he was pleased with his find.

"Colonel John 'Hannibal' Smith not only has a Ph.D of Business from Rutgers, he is also a master of disguises. SEC Appropriations Officer, Face (or Faceman) has over 10 years of Domestic Economic Trade experience and has this bitchin' 84' Corvette."

"H.M 'Howlin' Mad' Murdock will head the Foreign Markets Committee. Not only a crack helicoptor pilot, his reports on Middle Eastern Tariff Expenditures opened the door for the mid-70's Oil Price reduction." Bush then added, "Sgt. Bosco 'BA' Baracus will stand as the SEC Sanctions Officer. He's all Bad Attitude."

Bush said the new SEC team would become active, "Within a few days" and commented, "If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the Securities and Exchange Commision."
