Back from Colorado! The driving wasn't too bad because Wally rented a 4X4 Blazer with ROAD TIRES! Why the heck would Avis rent you out a 4X4 with touring tires? Oh well, we managed to not fall off the excessive elevations. As Wally playfully told me driving up there, Gunnison is the ass end of Crusted Butte, which is a hippies dream (or any outdoors type's dream) place. Some highlights of the trip:

  • West Texas is wonderful place if you're completely pyschotic and need to removed from civilization.
  • They made New Mexico the Texas-Colorado Loop. No need to stop in this state unless to take a wiz.
  • Let nothing stop you while driving the Interstates, as swerving and sudden stops can lead to serious accidents. Things such as buzzards, prairie dogs, rabbits, toads, rats and people.
  • When passing through Pueblo, CO we saw a brother driving around, where Wally said: "That there, is probably the only black dude in Colorado". He wasn't lying.
  • A Safeway billboard on the way to Gunnison showed a diverse work place (an Asian, a Hispanic and a African American). From Wally's mouth: "That's 100% times the actual number of ethnic minorities that work at the Safeway in Gunnison". He wasn't lying.
  • Interesting Fact: The entire Gunnison Valley is approx 20 MPH.
  • Get a hotel reservation or you're stuck in the fleabag motel: The Hylander Inn (no relation to Chistopher Lambert).
  • Coloradians love their Mini Golf. Not does the entire state have one in each little hamlet, city, or village, but the aforementioned Hylander Inn had one ON SITE.
  • The Gunnison Valley was named: "The Land of Many Uses" by State Recreational P.R. guys. I could only find maybe two uses.

Well, it was a fun trip, but i'm sure glad to be back in Austin. After waking up today, I just realized we drove 2000+ miles to pick up some comics. Hey, a brotha needs to have something to read on the john. I'll post some pics later today.

Song of the Day (double feature):
1.) Alejandro Escovedo - Castanets. I've been looking for this one FOREVER. It rocks harder than anything i've heard in a while.
2.) Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Love Burns. This one's for your P.Diddy.
