I've got a fever...NBA Fever. I've been keeping up with the playoffs and playing NBA LIVE 2004 on the XBOX at the same time. I'm finding it harder to discern between the two.
Somebody at work mentioned that this will be the first NBA Finals since 1992 (or 93) that has not had Robert Horry or Steven Kerr play in the series.
The Lakers are 2-1 against the Timberwolves and the Pistons are 2-1 against the Pacers...but in my XBOX Fantasy Dream Dynasty, my Sonics just beat out the Mavericks in the 2005-2006 Western Conference Finals in a balls out best of 7 series that went to Game 7.
My Supersonics are the NBA equivalents to James Brown, making them the hardest working team in the league. The 05-06 Post-Season consisted of a first round against the Timberwolves that went to Game 7, a second round against the Kings that went to Game 7 and a Western Conference Finals against the Mavericks that went to Game 7.
This is after getting eliminated in the first rounds of the 03-04, 04-05 seasons.
In my NBA Dream Dynasty, which consists of a roster of all my friends, I have to make up background stories outside of the court to keep the drama going.
Such as:
1.) Wally Ysbersiak (or however the hell you spell it) made off color remarks to John/General Tzo's season long weight problem, which resulted in a Three Game "Block Party" where the General stuffed the Timberwolves for an average of 7 blocks per game.
2.) The virtual Shawn was diagnosed with mild tourettes syndrome and was on a three month rehabilitation in the pre-season. The Sacramento Kings repeatedly made snide remarks to the media because of his illness, which caused bad blood between the Sonics and the Kings. This became evident in the second round of the playoffs when the Sonics came back from a 2-game deficit, force a game 7 and also "Win one for the Gimp-er".
3.) During a road game in the regular season against the Nuggets, somebody stole all of Troy/Poyfather's pommade from the visiting teams locker room before the game. When he confronted The Nuggets about who stole it, they denied any wrongdoing, even though they all had shiny heads. Pissed off with flat hair, Troy/Poyfather drops 36 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists on Denver. Miracously, all five cases of Bed Head were returned after the game.
4.) My virtual character, for the good of the team, takes a significant salary cut for only $30,000 a year, or $14.40/hour. Not only way under the league minimum, but also making him the first NBA All-Star to have to clock-in during games and practices. His stellar rookie and sophomore year is rewarded by the Supersonics with a 10% raise and a plaque with his name on it.
..anyways, now i'm playing the Pacers for the Championship, which airs tonight on my TV. Since Em is in class tonight, I can turn up the volume to hear Marv Alberts colorful commentary. I'm sure it'll go to Game 7, because we're a bit loose on the transition and have been having shooting problems lately (mismatches).
